boatyard
The
Maxi Dolphin boatyard was founded in 1987 in Erbusco, Brescia, by businessman Vittorio Moretti, and rapidly earned itself international renown due to the excellence and fine craftsmanship of the racing yachts and cruisers built there. In 2007 the boatyard branched out into the production of custom motor yachts, which is what
Maxi Dolphin still specialises in today. Thus came about the MD51 Power, a fast and elegant 15-metre mega-tender, opening up new horizons for the boatyard, which, having reorganised and upgraded its team, entered a new period of expansion under the guidance of Managing Director Marco Ramundo.
In over two decades of activity,
Maxi Dolphin has designed and built more than 300 boats for those who demand excellence and attention to detail. It is this meticulous focus on technical and aesthetic details that has brought
Maxi Dolphin global fame as a dynamic and innovative bespoke boatyard, which turns out the best of Italian design and the excellent craftsmanship for which the country is renowned.
What characterises
Maxi Dolphin is the use of innovative high-tech materials, such as
Kevlar or
carbon fibre, and state-of-the-art production methods applied by a team of experts, who lovingly create each boat with a passion and dedication to the job that are rarely seen nowadays. This sort of painstaking care is only possible when production is completely personalised and focuses on absolutely top performance.
Maxi Dolphin’s first launch was the Carmen di Bellavista, a 73-foot maxi-yacht designed by
Bruce Farr for Vittorio Moretti for racing in the demanding ICAYA circuit – a one-off design of great prestige originally intended for the personal use of the Moretti Group’s president.
Maxi Dolphin went on to develop highly diverse one-offs, yet all featuring indisputable excellence and personality: a Frers 77’, Farr 92’, Maxi Dolphin 65’, Maxi Dolphin 118’
Viriella, a second Farr 73’ and the new addition to the family, the Tripp 75’. All boats that do not have to comply with the Class Rules where the designer has complete freedom to interpret the owner’s requirements: dimensions, weight, sail rigging, deck gear, installations, interior design and so on, all tailor-made.
Alongside one-off boats, Maxi Dolphin is involved in the production of one-design yachts – strictly series monotypes that have to comply with the Class Rules. In such boats absolutely nothing can be changed with respect to the original plans, in terms of technical and constructional features and the sail plan, or they risk being excluded from the class. The owner can choose the sails (but not the number or type), deck gear and a few other details. The Joker, a very successful monotype, and the Dolphin 81’ are examples of one-design boats made by Maxi Dolphin.
Maxi Dolphin has always had the ability and desire to work with world-famous designers, selecting only the very best. They are what make
Maxi Dolphin creations truly unique.
