French naval architects Finot-Conq have some pedigree when it comes to extreme sailing yacht designs – alongside several models for big-name production builders, the studio has also developed an enviable portfolio of custom racers and fast cruisers such as IMOCA 60s and the Pogo series. So when they announce that they have designed the world’s fastest 100ft cruiser, it’s time to sit up and take note.
Her racing pedigree is instantly obvious from her chined hull with the beam carried well aft. But there’s more – she will sport a rig that towers more than 46m above the water, her main will be a full square-top cut with runners in place of a backstay; she will have 9-ton water ballast tanks each side, a short-chord performance lifting keel (drawing 5.4m when down and 3m raised), twin rudders and full carbon construction.
Accommodation will be laid out for up to 12 guests and three or four crew, with all but one of the guest cabins located forward of the raised saloon. Under her generous, uncluttered aft deck there will be a tender garage, with a stern door that will double as a bathing platform.
The 30.48m yacht will be built by Maxi Dolphin in Italy for a French client, and she is provisionally scheduled for a May 2013 launch.
