Following are the motivations behind the panel’s decision:

“The jury selected this boat for the high level of workmanship that has always distinguished the Maxi Dolphin boatyard. In this case in particular, its 100% carbon construction was found to be extremely precise. The boat was inspired by very large ocean crafts with a stern with canting keel and central canard. This choice allowed the designer to revamp the interiors by moving the saloon to the stern, placing it in contact with the external environment”

Technical data: LOA 19.50 m, beam 5.55 m, draught 3.35 m, displacement 16 t, sailing area 263 m2

The prize, now in its third edition, is awarded by a jury consisting of both ADI designers and a team of ship owners led by Walter de’ Silva from Volkswagen. Some of the ship owners who judged the yachts nominated for the 2012 NDA prize included Giorgio Armani, Vittorio Missoni, Lamberto Vallarino Gancia and the mayor of Venice Giorgio Orsoni

The winners of the Nautical Design Awards will later be assessed by the Permanent Observatory for ADI Design to select nominees for the Index awards and the Compasso d’Oro, the most important recognition in the design world since 1956.
