The MD65 by Luca Brenta is a successful project that was produced in a series of five with different interior layouts. Only Lu, the first yacht in the series was launched in 2002, and is built in sandwich construction with a CoreCell core and pre-preg composite elements in epoxy resins, carbon fibre, fibreglass, Kevlar and post-cured. The hull is made on a male mould with the structural elements already fitted into, for assembly of bulkheads built off site and then assembled on site on spring joints. The interiors are made of sandwich and all the fittings were made by the shipyard’s own skilled craftsmen. The interiors are divided into a central saloon, with a dining area, a galley, a relaxation lounge with a sofa, and a chart table: forward, the owner’s cabin with two berths, and aft of the saloon, two double cabins with low berths. At the far forward end are the crew quarters. All cabins are en-suite. The open transom provides a deck for bathing and gives access to the garage that can accommodate a 3.80-metre tender. The décor chosen by the owner is light-coloured woods combined with white leather upholstery for the sofas and the seats.
