OUR STORY
The utmost elegance, the use of the most advanced technologies and a new design approach in a constant search for beauty, which Vittorio Moretti, when he founded the shipyard in 1987, defined as: ” Tidiness, harmony and sharing. No beautiful thing makes sense if you cannot share it with others.”
This is still Maxi Dolphin’s mission today. With its yachts, both sailing and motor, it takes the highest level of research, the most accurate craftsmanship and the elegance that always distinguish its “well-made” boats out to sea.
1987
The Maxi Dolphin shipyard was founded by entrepreneur Vittorio Moretti. The first boat to be launched was Bellavista’s MD73 Carmen, a custom maxi-yacht designed by Bruce Farr for Moretti himself.
The 1990s
In the 1990s Maxi Dolphin produced a series of one-design boats, in notably the highly successful one-design Joker, the Dolphin 81′ and the Giro 34. More than 300 Dolphin’81s have been built to date.

1999
The collaboration with yacht designer Luca Brenta began in 1999 with the construction of his design MD65, a semi-custom sloop that was launched the same year. Four more MD65s with different interior layouts would be built in the following years.
Viriella
2001 sees the launching of the MD118 Viriella, a 36-meter-long Germán Frers design, which is followed by several MD65s as well as a TP52 by Luca Brenta and the first MD33, an innovative Day Sailer entirely developed by Maxi Dolphin.

MD51 Power
In 2007 Maxi Dolphin made its entrance into the motoryacht segment with the MD51 Power, a design by Roberto Starkel matching the refined construction of Maxi Dolphin’s sailboats with a design reminiscent of classical elements. The MD51 was produced in several units and comes with different deck and interior layouts.
Azzurra
In 2010, Maxi Dolphin carried out the restoration of Azzurra 83, the 12 meter S.I. which with the colors of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda brought the first Italian challenge to the 25th America’s Cup held in Newport (USA) in 1983. The difficult restoration which involved the reconstruction of elements of the structure and equipment together with the restoration of the original color occupied the Maxi Dolphin workers for 6000 hours. Once the restoration was completed, Azzurra was taken to Sardinia and placed at the entrance to the Porto Cervo marina, home of the Y.C.C.S.

Shamlor & Nomad IV
Between 2012 and 2013, Maxi Dolphin produced two projects by French yacht designers: the MD67 Shamlor by Axel del Beaufort and Guillaume Verdier and the MD100 Nomad IV by Finot-Conq. These yachts complement those of several MD51s, plus the MD53 Power.
MD Technologies acquires Maxi Dolphin
In 2016, Maxi Dolphin was acquired by MD Technologies srl. Luca Botter, who has been active in Maxi Dolphin since its founding, becomes the CEO, with engineer Giovanni Pizzati as technical director.

Karma
2019 marks the launch of the MD75 Karma signed by Mark Mills, which is awarded the title of “Best Sailing Yacht 2020.” Bill Tripp’s MD 75 is also built in the same year.

The first MD62ab, a cruiser racer designed by Alejandro Bottino is launched and sails to join its owner in Argentina.

The flagship MD70 Power
In 2021, the launch of another MD51 Power follows that of the flagship MD70 Power.
2022
The second MD62ab is launched. She features new technical solutions and a new interior layout to meet the owner’s taste and requirements.

2023
As many as three boats are growing from Maxi Dolphin. Two designs, an MD55 and an MD63 both scheduled for launch in 2024, in addition to the MD78 designed by Italian Giovanni Ceccarelli due in 2025. An important technical and organizational commitment which is recognition of the qualities of the shipyard, its workers and its young Technical office.
